OK...we went to see the the home today, and it was everything I thought it would be! I mean, it's not a HUGE home, but it's a very, very nice and manageable size.
The owners weren't there (an older man and his wife), but from what we were able to discern from looking around, he must be a retired cop, and they are older religious people who are Republicans. They own an old English sheep dog, and aparently the downstairs floors have a "dog" type smell to them (well, two of the carpets that the dog walks on...He doesn't go upstairs). I wouldn't have noticed this, except the buying agent told us. Well, that's not an issue for me. My family has had dogs since forever (I currently have a cat). When I lived with my parents, we had three cats, a dog, two birds and a turtle. I am familiar with "pet" smells, and this home definitely did not have a pet smell, and the carpets were clean :) Perhaps it's that it's just an older (not quite elderly, but "older" couple) who live there now and I have found that an older husband and wife without kids take really good care of their things. The home was built 13 years ago and the same man has owned the home. He got married a few years ago, and now him and his wife and puppy are moving to California. Hence the selling of this home...
This is the FIRST home we are looking at, and only because I felt "connected" to it after searching for months, driving around towns looking for real estate, etc...We are not in a big hurry to buy, but praying about the decisions we are making (with all of the homes we may/will look at). This house is a little "overpriced," so I wonder how much budging this guy will do on the price. The closest selling price in the area for a similar home is nearly $20k less than what he is asking.
It's kind of exciting, but we'll hopefully find a home that suits us (if it's not this one) that we will love!
