New mattress!!

We bought a new mattress set! YEAH!

Well, seriously folks, this was a long time coming...I've been out of high school for 10 years now (umm...wow?..I just turned 28, but saying that I've been out of high school that long sounds insane!). Anyway, I've been out of high school for 10 year now, and Brian and I were sleeping on the same mattress I've been using since I was 16. Granted after high school I traveled the world, went off to school, etc...but the point is, over 10 years of having a plain jain box spring mattress was a bit trying, and the bed is very, "dippy" if you know what I mean (think giant crater in the middle of the bed).

I like box springs - call me old fashioned, but I have a hard time getting comfortable on a foam mattress, tempur-pedic, etc...I've never tried a sleep number bed, so I can't rule it out and say I wouldn't like it, but I don't know about sleeping on something electronic. I don't even like to use electric blankets or heating pads :)

That being said, we "invested" in a Simmons Beautyrest. The Sealy mattressess were very Goldilocks and the Three Bears. One was too soft, one was too firm...We laid on at least a dozen different mattresses before finding one that was "just right."

See, being pregnant again, my back "acts up" in different areas. I have one area of my thoracic spine that has stress/lifting work related injury (nursing profession, enough said), and it will go for a long time without feeling sore - but lately it's been flaring up, and pregnancy has made the situation more uncomfortable. Pregnancy alone has caused stress to my lower lumbar region, which NEVER hurts except when I am pregnant (and even then, not all the time). When this part hurts, it REALLY hurts. Our bed now is inadequate to handle such a situation.

I gave my husband an ultimatum - We get a new mattress set by his birthday (the 16th), or I throw out our mattresses and we both sleep on the floor. Of course I didn't have to twist his arm, because even he notices that our bed was in need of replacement, and I was mostly teasing. Thank God I have a husband who is sensitive to my needs and was asking me about a bed a few months ago when we were talking about it probably being a good idea to get one...Only I waited until I started having back spasms before I really jumped on it. lol.

You only have one back. Take care of it!

Actually, we got these new lifts at work, and they are a God send. I mean, you should never try to lug patients around, or let them use you are primary support. I always have somebody with me when I am rolling a patient (even a "thin" looking patient), or getting somebody up out of bed that I am unsure of - it's too risky. I wasn't always like that, hence the back pains, but I will darn well preserve what I have - and other than periodic back spasms (very rare...once ever few months, for less than a week), I am in good shape! It just hits home when it happens to you.

...and being pregnant? I love laying on my belly usually...No can do these days! Three more months...yikes....

We get the new mattress this Friday - can't wait!
