Blech....Just got slapped with a $715 lab bill. You know, for somebody who really isn't trustful of hospitals and feels that they do TOO MUCH most of the time, I sure as heck let them do a lot of crap to me and my family....

I DID talk to the Doc about that kidney ultrasound. I said I thought it made no sense to get it, and she let me go with a "well, I don't mind if you wait a long time to get it..." I don't want it...period. The babe is OK,  my ultrasound was NORMAL, with one aspect being "high end of normal." Let's see if he's peeing normally after he's born, no infections...etc....Then we'll cross that bridge when we come to it...

But these lab bills...yikes. I don't know what "normal" people pay when they get tests done during pregnancy, but I was kind of spoiled with my daughter's birth being in network at the hospital I work at. I didn't even get a hospital bill for her birth, and had minimum lab fees. Here, just one test (a cystic fibrosis blood test they snuck in there) cost $392....

Unless you ASK, they don't tell you what they're doing.

Sucks, doesn't it?

The unfortunate thing is that I DID ask, but didn't get a straight answer, and got huffy puffy attitude when I asked. I just decided to let it go. Sure, some of these blood tests may be seen as "necessary," but they did an RH test on me, and I have an order to do ANOTHER one. I mean, they have my records. My Rh- blood type umm, DOESN'T CHANGE.

OK, so speaking to myself just like speaking to everybody else out there - Ask, but be a bully about it if people fumble with their answers. This is your healthcare, your bills. I guess I have to put my game face on again. I usually don't like bothering people TOO much because I work in healthcare and I am just used to explaining things to people, but a lot of people explain nothing. Nothing. I am a rare one I am.....

PRAISE GOD Brian and I have $$ for these "surprise" bills, but I think we're changing back networks. The only reason I went out of network was to have a doctor, ONE doctor to follow me - Well, I may have had 4 doctors in rotation at the other place I went to for my daughter, but at least they rotated with my care, so I knew them all, and didn't get some wicked surprise during delivery...AND, at least I knew more or less what to expect.

I wanted a "different" experience this time, what I am getting is an EXPENSIVE experience.

Guess it's time to call the insurance agency and figure out what the world their thinking....

boo...boo.....and I am still not for socialized medicine (definitely doesn't control "out of control" spending!)! I am for capitalism saving the world of healthcare! Hospitals need COMPETE for my business!
